Two held for selling drugs to students

Police in Musanze District has arrested two men for allegedly selling marijuana to students at Sonrise Secondary School. The school administration expelled three students, two in senior two and another in senior three, after they were found smoking the drug in the ceiling of a building.

Police in Musanze District has arrested two men for allegedly selling marijuana to students at Sonrise Secondary School.

The school administration expelled three students, two in senior two and another in senior three, after they were found smoking the drug in the ceiling of a building.

The drug dealers currently detained at Muhoza Police Station were identified as Wellars Uwizeyimana and Anastase Dusabumuremyi.

Police was tipped off by the school authorities, after the students confessed to buying drugs through the window of a school building adjacent to a fence.

The school’s head teacher, Jean Pierre Rurangwa, said the school will try to maintain a high level of discipline among students.

"We called police to help us in investigations to curb the source of these drugs; the school has a good record of discipline and academic standards,’’ stated Rurangwa.  

Police Spokesperson Superintendent Theos Badege, commended the continued cooperation between citizens and police in apprehending criminals, and sharing information on crimes.

"The school teachers and parents should take responsibility, to closely monitor student behaviour, these operations will continue as we fight such drug-related crimes,’’ Badege said.
