Editor,

Without doubt, Rwanda has done a great job in empowering women. Over the last 17 years, we have witnessed women leaders play a significant role in the ongoing transformation of the country and profoundly engage in poverty reduction initiatives.

Women hold the majority seats in Parliament. However, there is need to initiate policies that provide rural based women with equal access to opportunities like their urban counterparts. Coupled with massive sensitisation campaigns in such areas, it is definite that mothers deep in the villages would easily access loans and learn entrepreneurial skills to start up income generating projects hence ultimately improving the well-being of their families.

Lastly, it should be everyone’s responsibility to ensure the gains women have attained in society are safeguarded and propelled further.
