Editor,

I wish to comment on an article published in yesterday’s issue of The New Times in which Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) outlined its plans to regularly inspect products from regional member states.

For long, RBS’s has talked of plans to crack down on wrong weights, measures or substandard products which, if well executed, would ensure that consumers get value for money besides safeguarding their health.

The standards body’s recent announcement that it would broaden the range of products etched with its quality mark is equally welcome. With the upsurge of fake products in the market especially from China, such certification coupled with regular inspection of goods from other countries would further boost the confidence of the consumers.
Kudos to RBS for such initiatives!
