Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi Thursday evening held talks with the Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, at the country’s State House in the capital Banjul, following the latter’s inauguration ceremony after his November election victory
The Premier told Gambian media that his discussion with the Jammeh centred on how the two countries could strengthen cooperation in areas like agriculture, fisheries, justice and gender sensitivity.
"I came to see the President to deliver the special message from the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame and to also congratulate him on his new term of office,” he said.
"During the meeting we also discussed various issues on areas of cooperation between Rwanda and The Gambia. After the discussions, our two Ministries of Foreign Affairs will work on the agreement which will be signed between the two countries when our President visits The Gambia,” Habumuremyi told the press.
The Premier hailed Gambians for their hospitality and the invitation extended to Rwanda for the inauguration.
Prior to his visit, the PM attended the swearing-in ceremony of President Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and also paid a two-day visit to Burkina Faso.
The Premier also made a stop-over in Dakar, Senegal where he met Rwandans living there.
