A beehive: Nyagatare bee keepers received a Global Fund boost

NYAGATARE – The Global Fund, through the ‘Future in our Mind (FOM)’ project, has donated 100 beehives to beekeeping cooperatives in Kiyombe and Rwimiyaga sectors in Nyagatare District.

According to officials, the project operates in five sectors across the district, and encourages residents to choose the desired projects to be financed.

Isaie Ntezimana, president of beekeepers’ cooperative in Kiyombe Sector, said the Global fund’s provision of modern beehives was a boost to their production.

"We suggested to our donors to finance us by providing us with modern beehives. We are not new in this business but were practicing it in the traditional manner. We are optimistic that these modern hives will increase our production,” he said.

Janvier Rukwatagye, the head of FOM project, challenged beneficiaries to value their profession and take it to another level.

"If you manage your projects well, your profits will double,” he said.

Kiyombe cooperatives were handed 40 beehives, while another 60 hives were donated to Rwimiyaga cooperatives.

FOM project operates in the sectors of Matimba, Mimuli, Kiyombe, Mukama and Rwimiyaga.
