Musaale tips Rwanda women to break Kwibuka T20 title jinx

Six teams have confirmed their attendance in the Kwibuka tournament so far. They include Nigeria, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and host nation Rwanda.

Rwandan Cricket Association president Stephen Musaale only anticipates that Rwanda can finally end their Kwibuka women’s T20 tournament title wait.

Rwanda has not won the title during the last eight occasions despite hosting the tournament since 2014.

Musaale is, however, confident that the Rwandan team is now well-equipped to finally clinch it following their excellent show in the just-concluded NCF Invitational T20 Tournament in Lagos, Nigeria, where they reached the final before losing to Nigeria by 9 runs.

"I think the experience they got from the Nigerian tournament will help them perform better in the forthcoming Kwibuka and Ugandan tournaments,” Musaale told Times Sport.

"The tournament in Nigeria was a bit more of a preparation for us because I think the coming tournaments will be more competitive. I hope we perform well.”

So far six teams have confirmed their attendance in the Kwibuka tournament, that will take place at Gahanga cricket stadium from June 9-20. They include Nigeria, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and host nation Rwanda.

"This year, our ambition is to win the Kwibuka Cup. The coach is preparing the team...I think the Kampala traveling team will include some young new faces but we hope he will have his final squad before June’s tournament,” he noted.

Held annually since 2014, the tournament is the flagship event of the women’s cricket calendar in Rwanda through which the cricket community contribute to the country’s healing process following the atrocities committed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
