Rayon Sports 3-1 Police

RAYON Sport closed the gap at the top of the Primus League table to five points after yesterday’s 3-1 win over 10-man Police at Amahoro Stadium.

Police were reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Evariste Mutuyeyezu was sent off by center referee Abdoul Twagirumukiza after a dangerous tackle on Rayon Sport striker Bokota Labama.

But Fuadi Ndayisenga missed from the spot kick. At the stroke of half-time, Police took a surprise lead through Burundian international Loddie Mavugo.

Mavugo converted Meddie Kagere’s free kick to give last year’s Peace Cup finalists a 1-0 half time lead.

Rayon regrouped in the second half and there was little surprise when Jerome Sina equalized from close range after good work from Karim Nizigiyimana on the right flank.

On the 80th minute, second half substitute Papy Kamanzi benefited from a goalkeeping blunder to score the blues’ second goal.

Bokota then scored a third on the 90th minute to seal a comfortable win for Rayon who are now joint second alongside defending champions APR and Police on 18 points.

Mukura remain top of the table with 23 points following their 2-1 victory over relegation-battling Espoir on Saturday.

In other matches played on Saturday, APR thrashed La Jeunesse 3-1 at Mumena stadium; Kiyovu beat Marine 2-0 in Rubavu while Nyanza beat Amagaju 2-0 in Nyamagabe.

The league continues this Wednesday when APR entertains Isonga.
