Mugesera will still be deported

Editor,

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Committee against Torture (OHCHR-CAT) plea for a delay in war criminal Leon Mugesera’s deportation from Canada to Rwanda over alleged torture claims that he might be subjected to once he is in the country was regrettable.

I still believe that Mugesera will be deported no matter how long it takes. The alleged torture claims by Rwandan detractors are just fiction aimed at frustrating the rule of law.

Otherwise, how else the UN could have entrusted Rwanda to house war criminals from Sierra Leone and the UNHCR’s declaration recently that the country was safe for returning refugees?

It is very clear that Mugesera fears deportation for his part in inflaming one of the worst genocides in history.

I am certain the Canadian Government will disregard the Quebec Court’s decision and will instead go ahead to carry out the deportation soon due to the enormity of the Mugesera’s crimes.
