Editor,

For the last 17 years, service delivery especially within the civil service and other arms of government has fairly improved especially since the launch of the performance contracts which monitor and evaluate service delivery.

But this is not enough. Since the country joined the East African Community bloc, competition has stiffened within the member states in virtually every sector hence the reason civil servants must up their game.

For instance, I wonder why civil servants should spend over two hours on lunch breaks. And why does customer service continue to be a topic of heated debate for ages, something we should have dealt with by now?

Without redefining our goals and raising our standards, service delivery in the country would somewhat not match that of our counterparts in the region, something that would definitely hurt our growth prospects.
