MEDDIE Kagere’s proposed move to Gor Mahia has hit a dead end after the Kenyan club issued a statement saying they could not match Police FC’s asking fee.
The striker, who has become a regular in the Amavubi side, is valued at Rwf27m which is on the high end according to Gor Mahia’s club Secretary General Ronald Ngala.
"It’s a pity we can’t bring Kagere to our club. He is a great player but we simply can’t afford him. Police want Rwf27m (approx. Ksh4m) and if you add his registration fees, wages and bonuses, it becomes a very huge commitment for the club,” Ngala told Times Sport.
The Kenyan champions have now signed former Tusker FC hit-man George Midenyo and are on the verge of sealing a deal with Sony Sugar’s big striker Hugo Nzangu Nzoka.
Kagere made his mark during last year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup which was held in Dar es Salaam after scoring five goals to claim the tournament’s golden boot, along two others.
Ethiopia’s St. George are now said to be tracking the striker.
