NYAGATARE - The department of prosecution in the Office of Ombudsman, in collaboration with Police, Thursday arrested two officials in the Land Centre in Nyagatare District.

According to sources within the Ombudsman’s office, the officials were arrested over accumulation of wealth without clear justification.

The suspects are David Livingstone Mugisha, the head of the centre in the district, and his deputy, Emmanuel Vita.

The duo is detained at Nyagatare Police station.

"Our investigations department questioned them several times over accumulation of unjustifiable wealth. Their bank accounts were loaded and the duo could not explain where such huge sums of money were coming from,” said our source, which preferred anonymity.

In a telephone interview, the head of the land office in Eastern Province, Emmanuel Mukunzi, confirmed the arrests.

"Yes, we received information that two of our officials were arrested, but we are still waiting for prosecutors’ report to ascertain their fate. We cannot say much about it,” he said.
