Rwamagana- Eastern Province Governor, Odette Uwamariya, yesterday commended the Central Bank (BNR) for bringing services closer to economic agents.

She said this during the laying of a foundation stone to construct a BNR branch in Rwamagana town.

The ceremony was officiated by the Central Bank’s Deputy Governor, Monique Nsanzabaganwa, and attended by high ranking officials from commercial banks, local leaders as well as senior managers of BNR Rwamagana branch.

Uwamariya expressed optimism that with the establishment of the branch, services like agriculture credit schemes and micro-finance services would receive a major boost.

"The project to construct the branch is timely. We are ready to give maximum support towards the completion of the building,’ she said.

Nsanzabaganwa said it was the desire of the bank to establish branches across the country.

"We believe that technology is vital... we want to build and offer quality banking experience to our clientele. This is what we hope to address by moving to a new building, which is custom-designed to substantially improve efficiencies and reduce administrative expenses,” she said.

The new branch that will be constructed along the main Kigali-Kayonza highway, will cost approximately Rwf 1.8billion.
