Why should Egypt, Sudan decide for Rwanda?

Editor,

As a Rwandan, I read with concern Egypt and Sudan’s endorsement of the Commission on Water Resources Development Project in Rwanda without our country’s consent.

It was reported that the decision to endorse it was reached by the Joint Technical Commission for Nile water at the just concluded second meeting of the 55th session held in Cairo, Egypt.

This is not only a deliberate effort by the two countries to undermine our country’s sovereignty and that of other Nile Basin countries but also another attempt by the two countries to take control of the Nile waters.

Rwanda is an independent country with independent authorities to make decisions for its water use in line with its developmental goals. Thus, Egypt and Sudan should reverse the decision.
