Harebamungu said that under programme, 2,679 classrooms were supposed to be constructed.
"I want thank the general public for their outstanding support towards 12-YBE because they contributed 63 percent to the construction of the classrooms by providing manpower and other useful assistance needed”, he said.
The government has so far spent over Rwf 14 billion on the classrooms, with the local population contributing about Rwf 20 billion.
Students bound for 12-YBE schools are mainly those who completed their Ordinary Level last year. The construction process of all the classrooms countrywide will be completed by the time last year’s Ordinary- Level results are released.
Speaking to The New Times yesterday, Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, the Mayor of Nyamasheke District, noted that 148 of 165 classrooms have been completed.
"The whole process is going on smoothly and we are just putting final touches on the new classrooms, like doors and windows. I believe we shall have finished this program before the 20th of this month” Habyarimana said.
Willy Ndizeye, the Mayor of Gasabo District, said only two of the 90 planned classrooms are yet to be completed.
