Nyamasheke District officials marked the festivities with a field trip to Ngoma.

They visited several model farms, Akagera National Park, biogas plants in schools, among other things.

"Since Nyamasheke is a district bordering Nyungwe National Park, there is a lot we learnt from Akagera National Park, ranging from customer care to income generating activities for park neighbours,” Jean Baptist Habyarimana, Nyamashek’s Mayor, told The New Times.

He said though the geographical setting of Nyamasheke is far different from that of Ngoma, there was a lot the two districts could help each other improve with.

"Every district staff attended the field visit to learn and improve their specific domains next year,”said Catherine Gatete, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs.

The two districts signed a Memorandum of Understanding for routine visits and co-operation in implementing development projects.

"We work towards achieving the targets for our districts’ performance contracts. Co-operation ensures best outcomes, "said Francoise Ntiyotwagira, Mayor of  Ngoma district.
