NYAGATARE – Traditional healers in Nyagatare District have resolved to come together to form cooperative union.

They say formation of the union will help them enhance their image after they were accused by the public of being conmen.

"The public will gain confidence in our services if we work in a union,” said one of the traditional healers.

Emmanuel Rekeraho, the national head of traditional healers, said the union will set clear guidelines on the boundaries for herbalists.

"Some of them go around claiming to treat diseases like tuberculosis and HIV/Aids, which is not true. There is a Ministerial Decree that limits them from treating all diseases, and this union will be a platform that provides all this information,” he said.

"There is a countrywide assessment that aims at inspecting and advising healers on what they are supposed to do”.
