Editor,

ALLOW me to respond to an article that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times, "war on drugs taken to the grassroots.”

The training of 30 district community liaison officers in the fight against drug abuse and alcohol consumption among the youth will go a long way in helping contain the vice.

But since drug abuse is common among the youth, its fight should be extended to schools as well. Children need to know the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse when still young because this will, most likely, make them avoid the temptation to venture into such dangerous habits.
