The national boxing team has started 2012 Olympic Games preparations at the Amahoro stadium, the federation’s technical director Gashugi Kananura said yesterday.

Gashugi told Times Sport yesterday, "We started preparations a few weeks ago and our motive is to prepare thoroughly well for the final qualification tournament due in Morocco next year.”

"We have decided to start early preparations for the London Olympic Games so that we can have a good team that can qualify the country to London,” said Gashugi.

Gashugi, who also doubles as the team’s head coach, revealed that as part of their preparations, the boxing federation is arranging for build-up fights against Kenyan opponents in mid February.

The Africa Olympic qualifier is scheduled for April 27- May 6, 2012 in Casablanca-Morocco. Rwanda has never won an Olympic boxing medal.
