The New Times reported this week about a fraudster who was arrested with stolen laptop computers. As a Rwandan citizen, I am very proud that the law enforcers have always done a good job when it comes to bursting evil-minded rackets. Whenever foreigners come to Rwanda, they are astonished at how safe the country is.

This does not mean, however, that the job is already done and that we should relax. Remember, people who plot mischief are always waiting for the slightest window of opportunity to commit crime.

Therefore, much as police has done a great job, they need to remain vigilant. The same applies to the public whose contribution in crime prevention is as invaluable.

If we all play our part as we should, there is no doubt that we will have peaceful New Year celebrations.

I wish everyone a happy New Year!
