An endless ultimatum over sewage

Editor,

I read in The NewTimes recently that the City of Kigali had finalised a detailed physical master plan for the implementation of a central sewerage system. That KCC had now started negotiating with the Ministry of Finance for funding.

I want to remind KCC authority that in May, 2007, the authority announced a deadline for all building owners who had not installed proper sewage systems to do so or face closure.

At the time, about 300 buildings had been issued with the ultimatum.

Since 2007, some buildings still operate yet they don’t have proper sewage systems in place. KCC needs to take action. The centre system once installed will definitely save property developers from installing individual treatment plants but when will this central sewerage system become reality?

Kigali is a fast growing city and the earlier this is dealt with, the more affordable and less complicated it will be.
