Rwanda international Sven Kalisa says he is proud to see his country putting the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi's behind them and start from scratch to rebuild a united nation.

Rwanda international Sven Kalisa says he is proud to see his country putting the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi&039;s behind them and start from scratch to rebuild a united nation.

Kalisa was born in Luxembourg to Rwandan parents and has been capped internationally by Rwanda.

The 24-year-old, who plies his trade with Luxembourg Premier League side Etzella Ettelbruck, revealed that his parents told him about the Genocide that was perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994 but he is glad all Rwandans have forged ahead in unity.

"It has been 29 years, I was not born in Rwanda but my parents told me it was terrible and It's been a long time but it feels like it was yesterday,” Kalisa told Times Sport.

"Our people who lost their lives will never be forgotten. Today I'm proud to see that Rwanda is expanding and evolving and that it’s one of the most visited countries of Africa," he added.

Besides playing football, Kalisa is also a trained basic school teacher.

The central midfielder played for Luxembourg at U17, U19, and U21 levels before deciding to switch allegiance to Rwanda in 2022 where he earned his first international call up when Rwanda played Guinea Equatorial in a friendly in September.
