Key stakeholders in the operations of Teacher Training Colleges (TTC`s) Thursday met at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) to share views on a revised TTC curriculum. Following a Cabinet decision last year to empower KIE to take over from Rwanda Education Board (REB) the mandate to examine TTCs, the former has decided to review the curriculum of the colleges.
Key stakeholders in the operations of Teacher Training Colleges (TTC`s) Thursday met at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) to share views on a revised TTC curriculum.
Following a Cabinet decision last year to empower KIE to take over from Rwanda Education Board (REB) the mandate to examine TTCs, the former has decided to review the curriculum of the colleges.
"We want o make sure that the colleges produce quality teachers, and the best way to ensure this is to have a standard curriculum,” said KIE Rector, Prof George Njoroge.
He said it would enable the country to not only produce teachers who are acceptable for the country, but also internationally.
The Rector explained that revising the curriculum will be carried out after identifying all existing gaps, which will be bridged to enable TTCs to produce highly competitive teachers.
The vice Rector (Academics) Prof. Wenceslas Nzabarirwa, said that among others, developments have been made to make student-teachers practically competent by giving them enough internship time.
Speaking to some of the participants, the stakeholders said the new development brings education in TTC`s at a more advanced level since they are now affiliated to a specialized institute.
"This is in line with teacher development and management policy that will not only help the development of education in these institutions, but also the teachers,” said Emmanuel Muvunyi, the REB Deputy Director General in charge of Examinations and Accreditation.
