Editor,

Schools have once again closed for the end of year holidays. While it is vital that students take time off their books for a much needed rest, they need to engage in activities that would add value to their future.

Today’s children do not read widely, either leisurely or otherwise, to expand their knowledge base, a situation that spells doom for their future.

Some are spoon fed and primarily read to pass examinations; something I believe affects job performance.

Why not spend a few hours in a library and do research. We are in the technological era where the Internet facilitates research on everything we yearn to know. If only they could become more self motivated and learn more. The country will certainly be guaranteed of responsible, knowledgeable and productive citizens.
