The National Karate Federation yesterday carried out their annual talent scout where 48 players in the boys’ category and 8 girls were drafted into the U-15, U-17 and U-19 national teams.

Didier Rurangayire, the body’s Technical Director said the major emphasis for the federation going into the New Year is to develop youth structures.
The players participated in both the Kata and Kumite categories that included the U-60, 67, 74 and 84 kgs.
The Karate federation president Theogene Uwayo told the youngsters to continue working hard to get a chance at representing the country in regional and continental competitions.
Karate is one of the fastest growing sport in the country, with a number of clubs countrywide. The federation organizes regular tournaments to keep the players busy. Local teams often compete and dominate regional events.
