Women national football league champions AS Kigali have started pre-season training ahead of the 2012/13 season that kicks off in early February.

According to the club coach Grace Nyinawumuntu, the club wants to continue their dominance of local football by winning a fourth league title.

"As usual we want to prepare fully for the league season and that entails having a good pre-season,” the former national women team captain said.

The Kigali City Council side has already brought in 4 new players who are: Alice Kalimba (defender), Hyacinthe Uwingeneye (striker), Claire Uwamahoro and Janviere Mukadusenge (both goalkeepers).

The league has been postponed twice due to lack of funds but is expected to start in February after FIFA has sent its annual USD 250.000 (Rwf148m) of which 15% will be given to the women league.

Nine clubs are in contention. They include AS Kigali, 2008 champions APR, Inyemera, Remera, Rubavu, Musanze, Bugesera, Les Lioness and the National University of Rwanda (NUR).
