Eight local referees get Fifa badges

The world football body, Fifa has awarded badges to eight more Rwandan referees, including five women to officiate CAF/FIFA matches next year. The development was confirmed the Chief of Referees Department in Rwanda’s football body, Ferwafa by Athanase Nkubito yesterday.

The world football body, Fifa has awarded badges to eight more Rwandan referees, including five women to officiate CAF/FIFA matches next year.

The development was confirmed the Chief of Referees Department in Rwanda’s football body, Ferwafa by Athanase Nkubito yesterday.

Nkubito said, "This is a big achievement for Rwandan football. This is the first time that we will be having women referees officiating Fifa/Caf matches.”

Nkubito named the referees as Edourd Bahizi, Loius Hakizimana and assistant referee Bwiliza Raymond Nonati.

The women referees that have earned the nod include Salma Mukansabga and Angelique Tuyishime while assistant women referees are Francine Ingabire, Sandrine Murangwa Usenga and Speciose Nyinawabari.

The eight referees that have been selected takes the tally of Rwandan referees who will officiate next year’s Fifa/Caf assignments to 16.

The nine other referees that have been on Fifa assgnments are; Issa Kagabo, Hudu Munyemana.

Assistant referees are Ambroise Hakizimana, Felicien Kabanda, Theogene Ndagijimana, Eric Ruhamiriza, Jean Bosco Niyitegeka and Honore Simba.
