I wish to respond to Didas Nshuti’s letter that appeared in the letters to the editor section of yesterday’s issue of The New Times titled "ICTR decision on Uwinkindi should set precedence.” Indeed, Uwinkindi transfer is a big relief to Rwandans who have waited for justice for many years.

Rwanda has initiated several reforms in the judicial sector and there is no reason why Genocide suspects cannot be tried in the country.

It is ironical that some countries are neither willing to try the suspects in their jurisdictions nor willing to extradite genocide fugitives to face justice in the very country that they committed the heinous crime.

Whereas some European countries in the recent past tried or sent the fugitives to the Arusha based court,  some countries shield them, a move that encourages the culture of impunity in the world.
