Rwanda Red Cross (RRC) Sunday donated clothes to residents of Kibaya village, Nyarugunga Sector in Kicukiro district.

The donation was handed over by children who had completed a special holidays’ programme, conducted by RRC as a way of getting them involved in development activities during school holidays.

"We want children or youth to understand the meaning of voluntary activities towards national development, at an early stage. This will encourage them to maintain the spirit or get involved in voluntary work as they grow-up,” said Claver Pierre Ndimbati, head of Organizational Development at RRC.

He promised that his organization will continue supporting and forging partnerships with developing partners to promote community development so as to improve living conditions, especially in rural areas.

The donation benefited 61 families identified to be most vulnerable in the community, according to local authorities.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to The New Times could not hide their excitement.

"It is not common to for visitors or organizations to visit the way RRC has come; I am happy that my grand children and I have got new clothes as it approaches Christmas,” said Maria Mukamukuku.
