Editor.

I read with disbelief the closure of a community radio station in Karongi District by the Rwanda Information office (ORINFOR) because of alleged delay in acquisition of equipment to support modern digital transmission technology.

The broadcaster very well knew that the management of the community radio station had already bought the said equipment that was due to arrive any time soon which makes the shutting down of the station baffling.

As a resident of Karongi, I feel concerned about the closure of the radio which was playing a key role in development.

Local programming particularly on issues of hygiene, protection of children’s rights, giving women a voice and celebrating culture and language were very useful and entertaining.

My appeal to ORINFOR is for them to reconsider the decission.
