Editor,

The recent appeal by the  Ministry of Agriculture officials to regional leaders to invest more in animal health is timely. Agriculture is the backbone of most African economies. And Rwanda has embarked on the one cow per family project that has improved the lives of many rural families.

Unfortunately, there are new health risks resulting from diseases that attack the animals. Through collaboration between Rwanda Animal Resources Authority and District agronomists, sensitization campaigns on taking good care of animals can be implimented to ensure that farmers get optimal results from the animals.

We need to invest more in understanding animal health.
