Imbuto Foundation’s Scholarship Programme, yesterday, received a boost of Frw90 million from MTN Rwanda.
The funding will benefit 100 vulnerable children in high school, ranging from Senior One through Senior Six.
The donation was channeled through the telecommunication company’s own foundation, which oversees its corporate social responsibility activities.
MTN Rwanda CEO, Khaled Mikkawi, handed the cheque to Imbuto Foundation’s patron and founder, First Lady Jeannette Kagame.
"We are looking forward to working with Imbuto to give vulnerable children the most valuable opportunity to be the best they can be,” Mikkawi said.
Each student will, for the next six years of secondary education get Rwf 150,000, annually, to cater for school fees and scholastic materials, he explained, adding that the company plans to extend scholarships to another group of more than 100 students.
The First Lady expressed appreciation for the partnership, saying: "Education is a cornerstone of development, and I am delighted that MTN has decided to embark on this journey with Imbuto Foundation, in providing educational opportunities to young boys and girls and setting ground for a prosperous Rwanda”.
The Director General of Imbuto Foundation, Radegonde Ndejuru, noted that the partnership will help the organization give secondary education sponsorship to more needy children.
She said Imbuto Foundation, has, since 2002, provided 5,000 scholarships to youth.
