Editor,

Rwandans must learn to support their local artistes. It bothers me when I hear people shun our own.

Last week, I attended a concert that featured an international artiste at the Expo Grounds in Gikondo, yet it became evident that local artistes performed exceptionally well too. Although they performed as curtain raisers, the local artistes actually stole the show.

Then, over the weekend, one of the most promising Rwandan musicians, King James, launched his album at Amahoro Stadium. His album launch didn’t feature any international musician, but the concert sold out was  one of the best events I have seen in the recent past.

Yet the truth is that our musicians will not make it without our support. It’s good they are getting enough air time on radios stations, but then, they need sponsors as well as people to attend their concerts to buy their CDs. Music, being a special part of our culture, needs to be supported by all.
