Ishimwe nominated for ICC Women player of the month

Rwanda's Henriette Ishimwe has been nominated for the International Cricket Council (ICC) player of the month for March after her outstanding performance in the NCF Invitational Women T20I tournament.

The budding Rwandan female cricket star is competing with Papua New Guinea pair of Ravina Oa and Sibona Jimmy for the converted award.

Ishimwe, 19, is nearing her 50th T20 Cricket Cup for Rwanda and she is among the rising young female cricket players in East Africa currently.

She was among the top performers in the just-concluded T20 Nigeria Women Cricket Invitational Tournament in Lagos where she helped Rwanda to reach the final.

The teenager had 4/4 to reduce Ghana to just 41 in Rwanda 's opening game and continued with a star output against Cameroon with a 33-ball 43.

The youngster followed it up with her maiden T20I five-wicket haul and her best bowling figures (5/6) in the shortest format.

Ishimwe who has already had international exposure was among the two cricketers from Africa chosen for the Fairbank Invitational Cricket Tournament in Dubai in 2022.

She was also key as Rwanda reached the Super Six of the U19 Cricket Female World Cup in South Africa in January, 2023.
