With climate change negotiations underway at COP17 in Durban, South Africa, the Rwandan delegation presented its strategy on green growth and climate resilience. The strategy was developed over a nine-month period in consultation with various stakeholders; the government, development agencies, private sector, civil society and academia.

The strategy was developed over a nine-month period in consultation with various stakeholders; the
government, development agencies, private sector, civil society and academia.
"It is a comprehensive document that addresses all sectors of the economy in an integrated way and provides
the basis for mainstreaming climate change into government policies,” reads a statement released by the
delegation attending COP17.
The statement indicates that the national strategy provides a pathway for delivering socio-economic
development, whilst addressing the challenges of climate change, population growth and oil price spikes.
It also gives practical solutions that will build the local economy and ensure the future prosperity of
every citizen.
Experts described the strategy now places Rwanda as a ‘leader in the field’.
"Two development partners expressed their desire to support Rwanda in implementing the strategy through
finance” reads the statement.
The paper was presented by Rwanda’s Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Stanislas Kamanzi,
together with the High Commissioner to South Africa, Vincent Karega, and the Director General of Rwanda
Environment Management Authority, Dr Rose Mukankomeje.
