RUHANGO- Police in Ruhango District are holding a minibus taxi driver for attempting to bribe traffic
police officers with Rwf 20,000.

François Munyanshongore, 43, was arrested Wednesday, for overloading, along the Kaduha-Buhanda route, one
of the feeder roads in the district.

Ruhango Police Commander, CIP Jules Rutayisire, said the incident occurred at the police station, where the
suspect tried to offer the bribe to two traffic officers who were writing him a ticket.

"The two officers were following penal procedures of fining the offender with Rwf 50,000. He was arrested
as he tried to persuade them with a Rwf 20.000 bribe,” CIP Rutayisire explained.

However, the driver denied the allegations, saying he was only trying to convince the police officers to
forfeit the fine.

"I didn’t offer a bribe, but was explaining to the officers how the vehicle papers were confiscated after
my co-driver had overloaded by two passengers days earlier,” he said speaking from the police station.
