"What we teach the youth trickles down to the country’s development because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” Geoffrey Karegeya, the leader of the Anglican Church in Rusizi District underscored.
"We have reaped big, especially in the field of unity and reconciliation,” he added, highlighting that youth, who had formerly taken part in the camps had spearheaded a crusade against divisionism within their own families and communities.
Some of the subjects lined up for discussion include setting a vision and goals for the future, reproductive health centred on abstinence before marriage, small income generating activities, as well as unity and reconciliation.
"Building a nation is every citizen’s role. After this camp, you should be able to play an active role in fostering development of your families and the country,” advised Emmanuel Ndamuzeye, a representative from Rusizi District.
Participants exuded optimism about the effect of the camp in their lives.
"Exchanging views on HIV/AIDS and reproductive health will help us make strong decisions towards choosing life over short-lived material wealth from sugar daddies,” said Esperance Nigena, a participant at the camp.
The camp, which has benefited over 3,000 youth, is taking place for the 11th time.
