Members of the women federation of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) have been called upon to play a lead role in fostering development and improving the welfare of the people.

Bernadette Kanzayire, the RPF Commissioner in charge of Gender promotion at the national level, made the call while addressing members of the federation in Gasabo District.

"As members of this federation, you should use this platform to collaborate with all government institutions to improve performances in all aspects, to enable our nation achieve development easily,” Kanzayire said.

She requested them to engage in economic activities, especially by forming and joining cooperatives, which she said, will enable them overcome poverty.

Kanzayire urged them to strive for promotion of good governance by encouraging fellow women to avoid all forms of divisionism, work hard and practice family planning methods by producing children they are able to fend for.

Assoumpta Kabanyana, the Executive Secretary of RPF women in Gasabo, noted that they work closely with the National Women Council in advocating for the rights of women and children since they are most vulnerable to Gender Based Violence (GBV).
