Atul B. Jain, the managing director of the company, announced the developments after a meeting with Agriculture Minister, Dr Agnes Kalibata, and other top government officials at the ministry, yesterday
Jain said that he was inspired by the government’s commitment towards developing the agriculture sector, adding that they will continue working hard to ensure that all the drought areas receive water.
"Without water security, there is no food security; therefore it’s imperative for the government to invest in ensuring enough water supply to the farmers,” he said.
In interview with The New Times after meeting, Kalibata said that the arrival of the Indian firm is an opportunity for local farmers and will solve the problem of irregular rainfall that has led to low yields in various parts of the country.
"Irrigation in Rwanda is essential because of the unpredictable rainfall pattern. This is an opportunity for us to have such international firm operating in our country and we think it will also go a long way in ensuring food security,” she said.
