Police in Remera are holding a man suspected to have murdered his cousin and secretly buried his body.

Oscar Niyonzima, 24, a resident of Gisozi Sector, Gasabo District, allegedly hit Iredebrande Marora with a rock on the head killing him instantly.

The two lived together at the time of the murder.

According to police investigations, Niyonzima, an airtime vendor, killed Marora on November 24 and wrapped his body in a sack and buried it in a swampy area in Kinamba.

The body of the deceased was recovered days later by workers clearing the swamp.

Niyonzima, who confessed to the crime, told journalists that the deceased was mistreating him.

According to Niyonzima, their differences arose when Marora accused him of meddling in his relationship with his girlfriend.

"He accused me as being behind his girlfriend’s refusal to go to bed with him. Since then, Marora made my life miserable as we frequently quarreled. On 24th [November], we had a serious quarrel; I could not control my anger and I hit him twice on the head with a stone killing him instantly,” Niyonzima confessed.

Police Spokesperson Supt. Theos Badege condemned the heinous crime.

If found guilty, the suspects faces a life sentence.
