As the ongoing campaign – 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence – enters the second week, allow me through your paper to appeal the organizers to put more efforts on discouraging the culture of silence.

One of the challenges in the fight against GBV is convincing victims to bring their cases forward. Once perpetrators realize that they will be exposed, chances are they will think twice before committing acts of violence.

I have seen communities where they post the names and profiles of the culprits on a public website for everyone to see. This is an  initiative that has helped fight the crime.

Once we speak out, I believe we can kick GBV out of our communities.
