I would like to react to a story published in The New Times yesterday, titled: "More youth Sexually active – Study”. In the article there were concerns about how certain parents have left the responsibility of talking to their children about sexuality to teachers.

I would like to encourage all parents to take charge of their children’s growth and development.  As a parent, one must ensure that the child is protected and brought up well. While teachers too have a role to play, the parents should take the lead.

The youth are exposed to risks such as HIV/AIDS, we should be as close to them as possible to ensure their safety.
