Former students of Rwanda International Academy (RIA) converge at the school’s former premises at ETO Kicukiro to launch the Rwanda International Academy Alumni on December 17 from 3p.m.

The Old Boys and Old Girls, who pursued their secondary studies at RIA, initiated the idea of an Alumni Association in partnership with the administration of the current Kagarama Secondary School.

"As old students of RIA, improving the standards of the school has always been our priority. We all know that what we received from that school has made us who we are today, thus we have to give back,” Dr. Gilbert Biraro, the coordinator of RIA reunion explained.

"The main purpose of the Alumni association is to establish a link between present students of the current school and former students; to provide role models and encouragement to existing and incoming students and give an opportunity for alumni to support various students’ activities,” he added Rwanda International Academy was the first Anglophone secondary school in Rwanda, founded after the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

The association hopes to bring together former students from across the country and abroad to fundraise for the school. According to a concept paper prepared by the organising committee of the RIA reunion, the main objectives of the RIA Alumni is to facilitate the establishment of communication and rapport among the Old Boys and Old Girls of the school.

Also, the alumni will also solicit donors to help in furthering the objectives and vision of the school.

The event is the second such meeting since their first reunion at Car Wash in 2008.
