The National Basketball Federation president Eric Salongo Kalisa has resigned from his position just two years after assuming office.

Kalisa is understood to have tendered in his resignation letter last Thursday evening according to the Secretary General of the Basketball Federation Jean Lucien Mugabo.

"I saw his resignation letter on Sunday evening and he was citing personal reasons for leaving office. It would be pure speculation telling you the reasons for his resignation,” Mugabo said refusing to reveal whether it will trigger more resignations.

Kalisa’s resignation follows that of 1st Vice President Pierre Munyengabe and legal Advisor Shema Maboko.

The duo threw in the towel early this month citing among other things mismanagement of resources and disharmony in the executive committee.

2011 has been tumultuous for local sports that started with the resignations of Sports Minister Joseph Habineza in May while his Permanent Secretary Jean Pierre Karabaranga was sacked.

The National Football federation President Jean Bosco Kazura and Chief Executive officer Jules Kalisa resigned in September.

Amavubi coach Sellas Tetteh also threw in the towel. Athletics President Gerald Ntare wrote a one paragraph letter citing personal reasons for his resignation last month.
