We must spend public funds appropriately

Editor,

I noted with great concern the issue raised by members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding how public funds are spent by public institutions.

Several senior public officials have been summoned by PAC in relation to 2009/10 Auditor General’s Report, which indicated that about Rwf9.7billion was unaccounted for.

Following their appearances in Parliament, it is evident that certain irregularities can be avoided if the committee recommendations are implemented.

I acknowledge that not all is rosy and mistakes can be made, however, the less vigilant, the more public funds are misused, or worse still stolen.
