Editor,

I am writing to ask the Parliamentary Senatorial Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security to investigate Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to ascertain whether the funds they receive from donors are utilised appropriately.

There is concern that some of these NGOs are misusing the funds and some use them for eself-enrichment. There are reports that instead of helping the intended beneficiaries, officials in such NGOs build castles leaving the poor in the cold.

They receive millions yet there is little activity on the ground.

It is paramount to know how much money is spent. I remember in the past, some MPs had expressed dissatisfaction, noting that the manner in which the funds were spent was questionable since there is no clear mechanism in place to gauge accountability.
