The Iwawa Rehabilitation and Development Skills Centre has given our former street children hope for a better future. The New Times/File.

Editor,

I read in The NewTimes yesterday that Iwawa Rehabilitation and Development Skills Centre has transformed the lives of the former street children, two years after the centre was opened.

My brother, aged, 16 is a former street urchin. But after graduating from Iwawa Island, he has transformed and become a better person, helping all family members.

The skills in carpentry, commercial farming and bee keeping they learnt from the centre will, indeed help shape their future and perhaps turn into better citizens.

The positive fruits from Iwawa Island will certainly shame Rwanda’s detractors who had described the rehab centre as a place of torture.
