KARONGI- As investigations to identify suspects in connection with the embezzlement of Rwf 24 million from Kibuye Hospital in Karongi District intensify, another hospital official has been arrested.

Leandre Ntigurirwa, the former Environmental Health Officer at the hospital, was arrested after being named in the case that saw two of his colleagues apprehended last week.

Those in custody are Innocent Sevumba, and Dominique Nzanana, the administrative officer and accountant, respectively.

An audit conducted by district authorities between 2008 and 2010 revealed extra expenditures lacking supporting documents, especially on fuel.

"There was excessive expenditure on fuel and that’s why the person who was in charge was apprehended,” police said.

The report also shows unreasonable expenditure on transport, meetings and workshops that were never held.

As the three suspects await trial sometime this week, it is yet unclear whether Dr. Cyrille Dusengamungu, the former hospital director, will also be implicated.

"It’s likely that the former hospital director will also be arrested because he was one of the signatories during the time when the audit was conducted,” a security source revealed.

Meanwhile, police have intensified a manhunt for another former administrative officer, Dominique Ndekezi, who has since gone missing.
