Has fashion evolved or it has been re-invented

Whoever came up with the saying ‘there is nothing new under the sun’ must have been a genius. They figured out something that many of us still have not quite understood and probably never will. Now let us get back to the reason for this article before we go off track. So as I was saying, fashion has honestly come a very long way and from where I stand it does not look like it’s going that far in the context of some new fashion invention.

Looking at my mother’s pictures the other day I was quite surprised to realize that a lot of what we wear today has been there before. Leaving me with the question "Is they no one who will ever come up with some new fashion attire that will take us forward instead of relying on the past”? I hope someone will answer this question and sooner rather than later. I know many of us who feel so confident walking in the streets in our skinny jeans, boy shirts, sneakers, dungaree, leggings etc, not even realizing that they are a re-invention of what our parents, grandparents and even grandparents used to wear, shocking right.

I being a lover of all things fashion took it upon myself to open your eyes about what we call modern dressing. What we have is designers and fashion houses getting inspiration from what they saw in the 70s 80s 90s and even today. They basically just do some little adjustments and changes here and there bring it to market and we are left in awe because we believe there is nothing like it and they never will be that is why I said there is nothing new under the sun. Evolution to me is changing from good to better to best but fashion is kind of at a stand still and only being re-invented to fit our current modern time. If your still not convinced stay with me a little while and you will be. Let us look at a few popular clothes.

Let us take ‘the tights’ for example I bet you are wondering what I am talking about back in the day what we now call skinny jeans was once called tights, and just like today young ladies would wear them with dress tops, boy shirts with a big waist belt, a shirt and a waist coat etc. the difference would be that back in the day skinny jeans were made of mostly cotton unlike today where they are mostly made of jeans though as fashion is all the same, the cotton skinny jeans are now back. The boy shirts were also very common back in the day and a very extremely common today, I walk around and within a one meter radius I see around twenty girls in the boy shirts, which I must say the girls have managed to wear even better than the boys. Leggings which happen to be one of my favorites have been their since time immemorial though in the 90 they were popular in the gym rather than a fashion statement. However leggings have managed to find their way into our day to day life and I must admit they have been improved t
o look more stylish and sexy if I may be so bold to say.

Well as you can see it is the same but different and unfortunately I could not analyze every fashion attire but I hope that the ones I have, have convinced you that we are leaving in a time where creativity has been buried and now we are left to steal from the past but then again someone said ‘why re-invent the wheel’ another wise saying. So I now leave it up to you to decide whether fashion has evolved or has been re-invented, but then again re-invention is another form of evolution. That however is for another day.
