NYAGATARE-Umutara Polytechnic University will, this month, hold its maiden graduation ceremony.

The function, slated for November 25, will see a total of 400 students awarded Bachelor’s degrees in various disciplines.

The vice Rector in charge of academics, Dr. Eugene Ndabaga, told The New Times on Thursday that the graduands completed from four faculties.

"We are very happy that for the first time since the university’s inception, we are soon reaching a day that we have waited for long,” said Ndabaga.

He explained that students will be awarded degrees from the faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Information Communications Technology (ICT) and Business Commerce and applied Economics.

According to Ndabaga, preparations are in high gear although some students may miss graduation for various reasons.

"We are well prepared but we expect the number of graduands to reduce, mainly because some students did not fulfil the required needs for graduation while others are currently abroad,” he added.

The graduates include those who completed studies in 2009. Umutara Polytechnic was founded in 2006.
