35 farmers and other players in the agriculture sector, Thursday completed a three-day training aimed at building their capacity to boost farming activities.

Organised by ActionAid, the training attracted participants from across the country.

The organisation’s Country Director, Josephine Irene Uwamariya, told the media that the training was in line with their objective of promoting food security.

"Food security is not something that comes in a short time, but needs everyone`s contribution; that is the main reason why we want farmers to first understand their role,” Uwamariya said.

The Director General of Planning and Programme Coordination in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Raphael Rurangwa, called on the participants to pass on the knowledge acquired.

Participants said the training was important because they learnt how best to tackle challenges related to food security.

"It is not common for us to come together and discuss about our activities, but the most outstanding is that if members can put in practice what we have been taught, I am sure there will be improvement in our work,” said Christine Muhongerwa, one of the trainees.
